Tuesday Toffee #20: mistakes

There was a good TEDx presentation about how does it feel when we are wrong.

Surprisingly, being wrong, it feels the same as being right – at least until you discover, that you are no right any more, you’re actually wrong.

Depending on the mistake, it can be accompanied with more or less feeling of shame, usefulness, unworthiness…

There is another really good talk on shame, which I heartily recommend to see too. Actually, there are two famous talks by Brené Brown: The Power of Vulnerability and Listening to Shame.

It feels awful to realise not being right. Sometimes it is much easier to cast the feeling away, close all doors, and just continue on your way as you intended.

But in the back of the mind something already changed.

It is great courage to admit, that we were wrong. That we made a mistake.

Depending on our personalities, this can feel like a flick of the butterfly’s wing, or a hit by a rhinoceros. Of course, it also depends on the quality and the level of the mistake.

None of us is perfect, but sometimes we make life a lot harder for ourselves – and to the others too. Maybe by being as much flexible as possible, and accepting that not everything is always happening as we intended or wanted it to happen, make things a bit easier.

Well, I think many of us is more than familiar with the feeling that rises in the tommy just when you realise and get deep in the aftermath of making a mistake. We like it or not, we can be wrong.
Possibly, most changes in our life would never happen if they wouldn’t have been triggered by our own personal mistakes. It always worth to change the angle to see things differently, when it is possible.

At the first stage, it may be only self-blame, but if we can dig a foot out of this pod, it worth to see from the distance how things are. And, if possible, use this amazing power to change – apologise, accept and change.

As a funny quote says, which I found yesterday on the internet:

“I never make the same mistake twice. I make it five or six times, just to be sure.”

I don’t know about you, but I can relate to this pretty well. How about you?

Happy Spring to everyone, and take care of your shame and vulnerability! 🙂
